1. GNOME Extensions
1.1. Install Dash to Dock from GitHub Release
Fedora may ship an older version of Dash to Dock that is incompatible with the current GNOME Shell. For example, on Fedora 45 (GNOME 51), the packaged v105 fails with:
ImportError: Unable to load file from: resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/pointerWatcher.js
The upstream release (v109+) already has the fix. Install it directly from GitHub without needing to build from source:
1. Remove the broken dnf package (if installed):
sudo dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-dock
2. Download the latest release zip:
gh release download extensions.gnome.org-v109 \
--repo micheleg/dash-to-dock \
--dir /tmp/dtd-release
Or download manually from: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/releases
3. Install the extension:
gnome-extensions install --force /tmp/dtd-release/[email protected]
4. Enable it:
gnome-extensions enable [email protected]
5. Log out and log back in for GNOME Shell to load the extension.
The extension installs to ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/[email protected]/ — no root access needed and easy to remove.
